Running an independent aesthetic and cosmetic surgery clinic in the UK feels like a long-cherished dream come true for Dr. Tracy, bringing her back to her comfort zone of clinical practice.

Before arriving in the UK for her PhD, she was training in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Shanghai People’s 9th Hospital, the most prestigious and largest plastic surgery department in Asia. She cherished every day of her training, engaging daily in aesthetic injectables and cosmetic surgeries such as rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, breast augmentation, liposuction, etc. When life’s journey brought her to a new country, she remained as close to her career as possible, becoming a junior doctor in the NHS. Fortunate to secure her first NHS job in Plastic & Burns Surgery, she soon realized the job content vastly differed from her training. Understandably, within the NHS,

Plastic Surgery is also tasked with providing emergency services, including treating burns, bites, and hand injuries. However, Dr. Tracy felt she was moving away from her original aspirations.

At the same time, the aesthetic industry was burgeoning in the UK. Unregulated clinics, especially those run by non-medics, began targeting minority groups, exploiting their lack of language skills and resources to find reliable, medic-led aesthetic clinics. Disturbed by the severe side effects and substandard practices she witnessed, Dr. Tracy Xu decided she could no longer stay within the confines of the NHS. She was determined to use her knowledge and skills to assist those in dire need of experienced aesthetic doctors.

Thus, Peonia Medical was born at the beginning of 2016. It stands as an aesthetic and cosmetic surgery clinic adhering to the highest UK practice standards, underpinned by years of departmental, clinical, and academic systematic training in aesthetic medicine.

Since then, excitement has flourished. Thanks to the esteemed reputation of Dr. Tracy’s training hospital in Asia, an increasing number of satisfied patients have discovered and steadfastly chosen Peonia Medical. In 2019, Dr. Tracy transitioned to a full-time aesthetic doctor to serve a broader patient base. The service range expanded from simple injectables to energy-based devices and cosmetic surgeries such as mole removal and blepharoplasty.

Reflecting on her journey in aesthetic and plastic surgery since 2009 and the growth of Peonia Medical, she shares, “It feels like coming home to my original plastic surgery training when I come to Peonia Medical to see my lovely patients.” Aesthetics and plastic surgery are her absolute comfort zones, backed by years of training and research.
